"Wha's Like Us"

Grace and Ron Patterson welcome you to our home, Five Gables Guest House, the former golf clubhouse of the old Arbroath Golf Club. Now a popular family run B&B in Arbroath with separate owner's accommodation. This unique building still retains some of the charm, character and atmosphere that was home to the local golfers for nearly a century. Five Gables Guest House has been running as a bed and breakfast for over 12 years, and is regarded as one of the best in the Angus and Dundee area. The B and B is situated in an elevated position with panoramic views over the 18 hole, James Braid designed Arbroath Golf Course, and the stunning Eastern coastline. These views take in the Arbroath Cliffs to the North, to the Tay Estuary and Fife coastline to the South. With the Arbroath golf course literally on our doorstep and around 30 others available nearby, Five Gables Guesthouse makes an ideal base for B&B golf breaks. With the Carnoustie Championship golf course just 10 minutes drive away, and St Andrews Old course just 40 minutes away. Have a look at our Golfing page for details on discounted green fees at these other courses.

Arbroath, or Aberbrothock as it was once called, entered recorded history in 1178 with the founding of the Arbroath Abbey. The town dates further back to Pictish times, with Pictish settlements found here and all over the Angus area. Arbroath is the largest of the Angus towns, with a population of around 24,000 "Red Lichties". The town is well known for the Arbroath Abbey and its significance in Scottish
history. It was at the abbey in 1320, that the Declaration of Independance was signed by Robert the
Bruce and Scotland's nobles, declaring the Bruce as their King. Also well known for its delicacy, the
Arbroath Smokie, a tradition of smoking fish passed down through the generations. Smokies, in its many
manifestations, can be found in most of the towns 20+ cafes and restaurants. No shortage of nightlife
either, with over 25 pubs and nightclubs offering anything from a quiet drink and local Scottish music,
to live bands and the latest chart music. Arbroath makes an excellent base for touring, with the cities
of Dundee, St Andrews, Perth and Aberdeen all around an hours drive away. The town is also situated within an hours drive of over 30 golf courses and several fishing locations. Arbroath is also perfect for visitors touring Scottish castles, with around 25 castles located within 35 miles of the town. Some of these are open to the public offering tours, gardens and wedding facilities. With others in a ruinous state, or as private residences. At Five Gables House, we offer a weekly updated local "Whats On" guide. This has information on everything Arbroath has to offer, from Scottish ceilidhs, Gala days, annual events, theatrical shows, craft fairs, coffee mornings, indoor sales, disco's, karaoke and live music, to whatever else is on in the Arbroath and Angus area.

At Five Gables House B&B in Arbroath, we specialize in giving visitors all the information they need during their stay with us. So much so that the Scottish Tourist Board have given us a 100% rating (5 Star) for visitor information. Below you will find links to other visitor attractions in Scotland. Most of them not too far away from our guest house.
